Collection Tips

Trash should be bagged.
Fill your cart first.
If cart is full, place no more than three bags out for collection.
Place trash and recycling carts three feet apart.

Garbage/Recycling collection services will run a day behind for observance of the following holidays in 2025:

January 1 - New Year's Day
January 19 - Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day
May 25 - Memorial Day
June 19 - Juneteenth
July 4 - Fourth of July
September 7 - Labor Day
November 26 - Thanksgiving Day
December 25 - Christmas Day

Bulk Pick Up

The city offers bulk-item pick up every week (up to 3 items each week). Bulk items= furniture and/or non-freon appliances. Mattresses and boxsprings must be completely wrapped in plastic. Request bulk pick up by calling 311 or submitting a ticket online at https://fortwayne.thesmartcity311.com/

If you need help moving your bulk items, volunteers are happy to help.
